Plagues

I was driving a van down this road that looked like a US highway. There were two other people in the van, a man and a woman. We were talking about a website we were building for someone. So far it was a very 90s looking website: very plain, nothing past markup. We were talking about video placement within the site. Suddenly I wasn’t driving, but actually working on it. We got a call; it was the customer, and turns out he was satisfied so far. After some chit chat we parked on the shoulder. There was a pond that wrapped around a 50 yard hump. The pond was the first strange thing I noticed: it was more like a big puddle… and the waters bent at the edges as though someone had turned surface tension up to 11. It was like the puddle had enough water to extend to a bigger area, but something was holding it back. We walked around the hump to a perpendicular exit. A vehicle was coming. Looked to be some conservation agency officer who said a couple of tings on his way out. There was this other vehicle parked at a 45 degree angle right on the shoulder. It looked very futuristic. 90s, but of the 22nd century variant. Also abandoned. We walked over the hump to what looked like a fake safari kind of movie set, one having billboards and a rusty bus, along with other not very realistic looking items. However, there it was, a live lion. I must had not been paying attention or being idiotically bold, but the animal was real close. The other guy in the group flipped and started running. Talk about taking options away from us! I grabbed the woman and tried to outrun this other moron. The lion caught up and swatted; it got her around the hip, but seemed to lose all interest by the time we got back to the top of the hump. The other person also stopped. I was starting to yell when he raised his hand, having his index finger pointing up: “shhhh. Can you hear that?” I started to pay attention. A very faint hum on the background was starting to get noticeably louder. We looked around only to see this gigantic black particle cloud gettng closer and closer. It was a cloud of locusts. We started running towards the van again. The bugs were catching up. We were not gonna make it. A few bugs were starting to fly past us when… BUZZZZ… BUZZZZZ… BUZZZZ…
