I woke up in this space port town. It felt really familiar, albeit futuristic; lots of cylinders and metal in its architecture. Jumped out of bed and the gang was there. It’s almost like I had known these people my whole life, but in retrospect I have no idea who these people were supposed to be. I approached them; they were playing with their big caliber guns. Some were cleaning them, some were reloading the mags, some were tinkering and adjusting them. One of the four turned his head towards me and handed over a rather heavy machine gun. “Here, check it out,” he said. I looked at the thing like I knew what I was doing, pointed it at some dummy on the other side of the room, and emptied the magazine. “Not bad,” I said handing it back. The guy took it, removed the clip, and hooked it up to a feeding machine, which started pumping rounds in it. He set the hot gun down on this leather sofa. “It’s gonna burn it,” I thought, watching carefully.
Watching the machine feeding rounds to the mag was mesmerizing. The enchantment only broke when one of my cohorts got a call. See, they were a small group of elite mercenaries and an absent member had been caught up in some sort of train heist on some other planet. They hastily started packing up; one of them said I didn’t have to come, but told me to grab my gun if I was to come along, looking at the machine gun on top of the couch. I grabbed it almost clumsily, saying “hells yea! I ain’t missing out going to another planet!” Looked back and saw the bed I had woken on neatly done. Grandma snuck up on me; “be careful!” she said with that very specific tone she pulled every time I had been fixing to cross the pond in the past.
We made it to some elevator in the space port, which oddly enough was the building we were at. A naked couple showed up out of nowhere. For some reason I boarded the elevator with them as the others waited for the next. They started talking to me, can’t really remember what about. Somehow I knew there would be a few peeps like them around in the port. As the glass pane’d elevator was reaching its destination you could see a number of naked people looking at exhibits to the left and what looked like an artificially illuminated dingy bar with a game room to the right. Told them they’d love it there and hung a right. I started to look around while I waited for the others to show up. There were people doing all sorts of wonky stuff in there and no one seemed to care I had a 30-pound gun strapped to my trunk. As I walked, I saw someone who felt familiar. “Shane!” I thought. I approached and started talking to him, but all he really did was look at me strangely, like he had never seen me in his life. I looked towards the bar and saw him walking towards us too! “Oh, shoot… that’s right, you had a twin or some shit,” I told the real one. “Yup,” he replied, “I’d invite you to the game, but we’ve already started.” It was fine though because my group had just showed up while I offered a very redacted explanation. I disengaged and, nervously, started walking towards the space ship.
