The End of the World

I woke up one day deciding that I was done with tech and computers. I took a job as an English teacher; total departure from my last 15 years or so, I thought. I was getting to know my coworkers in this outdoors patio looking place. Maybe it was the school, but I didn’t know. It looked a little futuristic, lots of square shapes and a remarked lack of surface uniformity. It felt like a soiree; everyone had a champagne glass, everyone was chitchatting in a very soft-spoken tone. I was socializing a little with three other coworkers when somebody took my pants. Can’t recall how it happened, but it did feel a little awkward.

We left the party and were walking on the streets close to the ocean. I got an email saying someone had accessed my Amazon account from a weird location, which I opened. Almost simultaneously, and whether it was related or not I cannot say, three rockets shot up into the air. They didn’t look like they were going to space either, so we decided to try to do something about it. I was the only one in the group with tech skills and having been a nerd in my past life I started hacking one of the missiles to shoot it down. I didn’t have proper tools, just a phone, but with some effort I promptly got in and disabled its flight capabilities. Pretty soon after it hit me that this was not going to be a good thing, as the rocket was still over the city; the rocket started loosing altitude and eventually crashed into this 8 story residential building. The building immediately caught fire and not too long after it was engulfed in flames. We ran away from the city, but the further we went the more ruins we encountered.

Some time later, we found ourselves scavenging. We had bikes we would ride around and hid finds in bags we strapped to the racks. The ocean was still nearby, there was sand everywhere we went and biking on it was hard, as we surely didn’t have the luxury of fat tires. If I had to say, we definitely fit into the chaotic good alignment. We weren’t a gang, but we had each other’s backs at any cost and wouldn’t roam around doing whatever it took. Something happened at some point and I found myself on a wheelchair. It was electric, though electricity wasn’t easy to come by. One day I was heading down this one street when someone pointed a gun at me. Hadn’t seen one of those in a while, I thought as I almost hopelessly tried to back out of the alley. This is the end, I also thought, but turned out she just wanted to have a grand ‘ole time.
